2006 Update

Presidents Report July 2006

"THE NEW DEAL" IS COMING  Down Load the PDF Flyer Newsletter Newdeal

With the wind down of MOJO it is now time to concentrate on “The New Deal”written and directed by James Balian. The show is now cast and rehearsals are going well I understand. What we need now is helpers both back stage and Front of House.
I am sure that James would appreciate any help that is offered and its a great way to stay involved in theatre.
The show opens on 4th August so its only a month away,so please stick your hand up.We need Lighting,Sound,Front of House etc.
The flyer for the show will soon be available so please email it around to all your theatre friends and spread the word.
The web site has been updated and tickets can be bought online or booked through 9918 7661.
I am thinking of buying a prepaid cheap mobile phone that we can use for the booking line as it becomes a pain doing it everytime (thoughts?)

Also we have to start thinking about our November show(A Shakespeare) and also 2007.
We have been offered some slots at Star of the Sea next year including doing Manly Mates in Jan/Feb.I am also keen to canvas suggestions for next year. One I would love to do is Whos Afraid of Virginia Wolf,or The Seven Year Itch.(again thoughts ?)
Trivia Night is being planned for later in the year so keep in touch with progress and a date.
Apart from that its really a focus on James’s great new show and once again PTC is lucky to have such talented writers and directors to stage new productions.

Presidents Report April 5th 2006

The Mascara Monologues

Our March Show was the Mascara Monologues and was very successful. In terms of numbers we had over 1200 audience members(1000 paying) and took over $25,000 at the box office. This was a new venture for PTC and was a coop production with the actors Producers and PTC sharing in the profits.I am enclosing a separate breakdown of the costs of the show and the revenue but it roughly cost $12 ,000 to produce which meant a profit of around $13,000.This has been split as per the attached with the Actors company taking around $9000,PTC around $1000 and Phantom Productions who funded the show $2500.

This was a break through show for us.We developed a data base from the sales of tickets of over 100 new names and generated a huge amount of interest.Star of the Sea has invited us back to produce three new shows there next year as well as the two that we are doing this year.

I would like to thank all those people who helped with the show especially Ross,Merrilyn and of course a big thank you to Frances. All of the volunteers who helped out did a great job and enabled it to be as successful as it was.Without back stage support it would not have been possible. Also thanks to Jane for her ticketing prowess and patience on the phone and with our new ticketing system.

The theatre was a big hit and the help of Mitch and his team was excellent.

Thanks to those again

For anyone who did not get to see the show I am sure the girls will be bringing it back in the near future somewhere!

Mojo

Rehearsals are well under way for an opening on 17th May with a great cast. This is proposed to be another coop production and a joint venture between PTC and Phantom with profits being spilt between the two entities and the actors involved. There is also a thought for incentives for members and actors to be rewarded for ticket sales. This needs to be discussed but I am proposing a bounty on ticket sellers of $5 for every ticket sold.I am proposing that each interested member get 100 tickets to give away as well as the flyers and anyone who books or turns up with a ticket with a name on it that person will get $5.I would like feedback on this proposal but we were very successful in marketing to large groups with Mascara and raising money for them so we are looking at ways for mojo.

I do need help with Mojo as it is quite an undertaking so if you want to get involved let me know and I will have a chat.Looking for lights,Props,Music and some staging input. Also need a old jukebox.

Any help with marketing also appreciated

The New Deal

James is starting to crank things up for the New Deal. Our June/July show.Auditions are next Wednesday and the following Sunday. For those interested in trying out please email James on jbal@unwired.com.au for more details.

Performance dates are yet to be locked in as I haven’t heard back from Tony at Pittwater Council so will advise when I have more info.

2007

We have been asked by Star of the Sea to produce three shows next year and I have suggested that we do Manly Mates as our first show in January/February 2007.I have spoken to Frank and he is keen as are the Manly Council to support us.

March 2006

President’s Report (Minutes available in Doc format)

AGM March Report

Good evening fellow thespians and welcome to the 2006 AGM.

We have had a great 2005 with many highlights including

New Comedy “Boys Night In” produced
The very successful “Mascara Monologues”
“Junk Rooms” performed at the New Star of the Sea Theatre
“Don’s Party”and after party!
Trivia Night Fund Raising
Xmas Party
Web Site and Ticketing solution Developed with Eventix
Improved Finaces
Increased Membership
Great Feedback and raising of profile in the community both local and artistically

Not only was 2005 a success artistically with four great shows produced but financially we have consolidated our balance sheet and have a good base for 2006.

Not all was rosy in the PTC garden as we had to pull one production of Breaker Morant due to being unable to cast it.
Also the core group remains strong but it would have been nice to see more input from other actors from our shows and a willingness to pitch in with activities outside of performing.
It was unless tough having to pull Breaker Morant due to lack of male actors

We have an exciting program planned for 2006 and it also includes a bold move to make PTC a more Co-Op production Company than a true Community Theatre. In recent years the time pressure put on committee members and our actors is such that we should try to make ourselves as professional as possible and that includes some kind of monetary reward as well as personal satisfaction.

In 2006 we are producing or co producing two exciting shows at the New Star of the Sea Theatre in Manly. This is a great move for us and will expand our audience and brings new members into our group. Also we hope that it will be financially rewarding as both productions are profit share.

This year we have also changed our ticketing system and have now the capabilities on our web site to process tickets and other associated items. This systems seem to be working well with our ticketing for Mascara Monologues. It will be expanded in 2006 to include merchandise ,membership and enable us to emarket our members better.

There are a number of exciting things happening already in 2006.Mascara Monologues opens March 8th and I would urge everyone to really get behind this show as its an exciting opportunity for PTC to be associated with a potential sell out show at a great venue. In May we are doing a brilliant play called “Mojo” by Jez Butterworth. Its a great play from a very talented English playwright and features an all male cast.Having just held auditioned I think it is going to be pretty special. In June we are putting on James Balian’s new work The New Deal at Narrabeen which is going to be exciting as again it’s a great piece of writing and should be very successful.I applied for a grant from Pittwater Council last year and we were lucky enough to receive a small amount of $800 to develop a Drama Festival.I think this should be our focus for August .I intend to get in touch with relevant parties who may be interested after Mascara and try to gauge their interest for this.I think PTC members should start thinking about plays, short plays and sketches that they would like to be involved in and hope that it is a chance for everyone to get involved, even those who only help out front of house!

As far as the November show goes ,Michael has volunteered to direct something so we look forward to welcoming his strong hand back on the rudder.

I am excited about the progress of PTC and hope that 2006 is even better. It can only happen with your support and commitment but I know that with the state of Australian Theatre and film being what it is,the only way to work is create your own work. This is what,I hope PTC will become,as an umbrella oragnisation to produce quality entertainment and drama that is confronting, professional, thought provoking, entertaining and good value.Above all it should be fun for the members and a challenge for us as actors and Theatre lovers.

Thank you for all your support in 2005 and I look forward to working with all of you in this exciting new year for PTC

January/February 2006 Newsletter     (Download PDF Newsletter)

Happy belated New Year and welcome to the first newsletter of 2006.

PTC is looking forward to another busy year and hope that you will be part of it.

We will be holding our AGM on Wednesday 1st March at 7.45 pm at Narrabeen Community Centre if you are interested in coming along and getting involved. Its your Theatre Company so its up to all of us to keep it exciting and relevant.

Anyway our plans for 2006 are well advanced and I thought I would take this chance in bringing you up to date. Our 2006 season will be starting this year in March with the very popular Mascara Monologues playing at the Star of the Sea in Manly opening March 8th and running till the 18th.It is sure to be a popular show so book early either through our ticket office on 9918 7661 or through the new facility on the web site www.peninsulatheatre.com.au .We are taking bookings now and are running some fund raising programs for groups ,clubs and schools so if you are interested in those programs ,phone Jane on 9918 7661.

Our new ticketing system is up and running on the web site and is excellent so please use it.It is totally secure and the facility is well supported by www.eventix.com.au which are a large ticketing solution provider who we have contracted to provide our on line ticketing solution and e-marketing for us.

Mascara Monologues is sponsored by www.motherinc.com.au and Getronics and we have partnered with these two corporate sponsors to enable us to market the show to a wider audience and take the next leap forward for PTC.

In May we will be producing a fantastic new show called “Mojo” written by a young English Playwright Jez Butterworth.Again we will be producing this show at the Star of the Sea and using the greater size to try and broaden our audience base. Its a very exciting show and won a huge amount of awards in the UK.Its the story of a Gangster turf war over a new hit singer in a Soho club in 1958.We have blood, shotguns and hanging bodies so its going to be quite a challenge.

In June we are producing a new show written by James Balian, whom some of you may remember from Don’s Party last year.He has written a Faustian Tale called “The New Deal” concerning a man who sold his soul to the Devil. Its another exciting first for PTC and we are really looking forward to bringing it to life in Narrabeen.

Well that should take us up to the middle of the year after which we are producing a show in August and one in November again. You are welcome to make suggestions and we are only too keen to hear from you.

2005 was a great year for us and has left us in a strong position financially and artistically and we are keen to capitalise on that to push 2006 to be even better! We do need your help though either as an audience member or someone on the stage or helping out behind it,there are always a lot of things that need to be done to make PTC happen. If you were involved in 2005 ,thank you if not why don’t you get involved in 2006.We welcome new members, new actors and helpers of all persuasions, membership is cheap and I promise you,you will have a good time.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to phone me on 0414 345 137 or email on info@peninsulatheatre.com.au.

Look forward to seeing you in 2006

November 2005 and Don's Party Report (available in PDF Click Here)

Presidents Report

Don’s Party

As a Director and Actor, Don’s Party was a huge success although the audience numbers were a little less than I had hoped.
We ran eight shows and the average attendance would have been around 45 ,I guess for the season. The cast had a great time and the show was very well received by those audience members that came and as usual the bulk of the audience was friends and family of the cast.
It was a great tribute for our 21st birthday and once again the quality of performance was as good as anything PTC has done in the past.I would personnally like to thank all those involved from Actors to crew and Lighting people and Husbands/Wives who helped front of house and with props and set, for all their time and effort in making it as successful as it was.

Star of the Sea Manly

After meeting with Ken Granneman from Star of the Sea we have provisionaly booked two sets of dates for next year down in Manly.
We have 8 shows booked in March (starting 8th) and 8 shows booked in May (starting 17th)It is my plan to take the march slots for Mascara Monologues and it will be a joint production between myself and PTC and the Mascara Girls. It is proposed that the costs will be borne outside of PTC and PTC will just take a share of the box office for its backing. This needs to be discussed further tonight. The May performance was originally planned to be a reprise of Don’sParty independent of the PTC May Production, however given the audience numbers for DP this again needs to be discussed. It is possible that we can use the venue as our May production entirely ..do two May shows...or just do DP.It is all open to discussion. Both these productions I had envisaged as Coop productions and those involved will be paid on a profit share basis.

2006 Season

We have to choose shows for our 2006 season.I have thrown a few ideas in the ring but open to suggestions. We need Directors and plays. We should try and lock in the first six months by Xmas Party Time.

Ticketing Arrangements

We have used MCA for some time now and believe that it is time to review our ticketing arrangements with them as we do not seem to be getting anything extra for our money. Some time ago we looked at using eventix ticketing built into our web site and using a booking number ourselves. This has the advantage of being able to process tickets etc and also to build a more detailed and up to the minute database. The cost of this is $600 once off and then we would have control through our web site of the whole system.Again this is something we need to discuss.

Xmas Party

The Xmas party will be at the Rock Lilly in Mona Vale on 8th December.PTC will put in for some drinkies so do not miss it.Book with Tiff to secure your spot.Cost should be around $30 for the night so it will not break the bank.See Tiff for more details.

James bring your Guitar!!!!

October 2005(available in PDF click here)

Its been another hectic time at PTC over the last night month with Junk Rooms,The Manly Festival and rehearsals starting for Don’s Party. We are now gearing up for 2006 and there have been some exciting developments which I will talk about later.

Junk Rooms.

Junk Rooms played last week at the all new Star of the Sea Theatre in Manly and while it was not really a success from a commercial point of view, artistically it was very well received and despite being a one woman show and an unknown one to boot by an unknown author we had pretty good attendance with 23 on the thursday and over 40 for the Friday Night.Importantly it has given us an intro into the Theatre in Manly and proved that we can take PTC to a wider audience. We have also gained valuable experience with the the technology of a large venue with Ross ,Tiff and myself operating the lights and sound. We also made a valuable friend with Mitch the Theatre manager at the Star of the Sea.

I have also been asked by the Theatre Director Ken Granneman to come in and have a coffee and talk about what we would like to achieve in Manly in 2006 so that's very exciting.

Forthcoming Events.

Don’s Party

I have finally cast Don’s Party and rehearsals are underway, albeit a little behind schedule. However the cast is coming together well and I think it will be a great show. The cast has worked very hard and we have a great mixture of seasoned professionals and some first timers and new faces for PTC.So its just what community theatre is all about.

I am now looking for production helpers as I need some help with costumes and props etc.So if anyone wants to get involved I would love to talk to them. Also looking for an artist for some cartoons and some pornographic objects!!!Anyone know anyone that does sculpture as well!!

Flyers are in the process of being designed and the marketing campaign will be starting very Sun. have already had inquiries about the show and have appointed MCA to do the ticketing as usual. This will be reviewed for next years performances. If any one has any interest in helping out with the marketing please let me know.

Mailing List

I would also like to send out a letter to the mailing list with the flyers to try to cull our list down and if possible get them over to Email .I know its not quite so effective as people get so much email, but one of our big expenses every show is the flyers and the postage. We need at least to cull the list and make it more interactive with our membership.Maybe we could offer them memberships and subscriptions with the flyers perfect Xmas gift.Maybe we could offer subscriptions to the 2006 season through our web site. Also we need to devise a subscription ticket that we can sell to anyone who wants to subscribe.

Xmas Party

As is tradition we will be holding a Xmas Dinner in December to catch up with old friends and make some new ones would love a volunteer to organise the event.Usually we have it at the Tex Mex in Mona Vale but happy to consider other venues.Lets really try to make a special night of it to celebrate our 21st Birthday and the end of a great year.

2006

We now need to plan our 2006 season and as yet I have not that many ideas. So if there is a play you would like to suggest or to throw your hand into the ring for Directing or any of the other tasks please now is the time few years ago Michael and I called for interested Directors and producers to contact us with proposals for shows suggest we do that again unless we get enough ideas from internal.Even if you haven't directed before that does not matter as there is only one way to learn and that is to do it!!So put your thinking caps on..I would suggest we try something new again and maybe a classic(ie one we don't pay for)and something else but I am open to ideas.

September 2005

Its been a busy time in the last few months and its now a good time to plan for the next six months.

PTC has held two significant events in the last two months,a Trivia Night and another new production of a Local play,”The Mascara Monologues”

Trivia Night:

Although I was overseas at the time from all the reports I had ,the evening was a great success with over 60 people attending and a good sum of $1500 raised which has helped us build up our finances.Special thanks to all our corporate donations and personal donations which enabled us to rasie so much.I have written letters to all our supporters thaning them for their help and would like to thank the Trivia Night commiittee,Tiffany,Frances,Bron,Majella,April,Michael and Merrilyn for all their efforts in making it such a great night.Maybe next year I can be there as well!!!

Mascara Monologues

The August show that replaced Breaker Morant was The Mascara Monologues written by Louise Deibe. What can I say it was a huge success with four shows, one for Charity and the rest for PTC as Producers of the show. The numbers were overwhelming and despite more performances at Avalon RSL after our run ,we sold out and took nearly $6000 with full houses every night. We donated $1000 to Breats Cancer Research and gave the girls their expenses and $350 to buy themselves a good night out and I think PTC made about $1500.All round a huge success and thanks to Frances especailly for her magnificent efforts with the catering, and to her husband Ross for all his help. Also to April for lighting .While disappointing that we could not get Breaker Morant together due to lack of men ,it was great that we got the chance to support another local production and one that drew such huge crowds.we did have some complaints due to sight lines but most people understood the problems with the staging and the unexpected response that we had.All told a great result for all those involved and heartening the the gamble paid off.

Forthcoming Events.

Don’s Party

I am trying desparately to cast our November production of Don’s Party.Having had two auditions we were inundated with girls but once again men were particularly sparse and I am struggling to cast the show. This time my plan “B” is somewhat limited to changing the show and delaying it til after Xmas.More details will emerge in the next few days as I am auditioning again on Thursday night.

Manly Festival.

PTC has been invited to be a part of the Manly festival on Saturday 10th September with myself MC and three other members reading some excepts from various poems.Good to raise the profile of the group and we should try and use it as a marketing exercise.

Junk Rooms.

Natalie Taylor and I have been hard at it rehearsing for the upcoming production of “Junk Rooms” at the Star of the Sea in October. It is a very exciting opportunity for PTC to be part of this new Theatre in Manly and gives us a chance to take PTC to a wider and hopefully bigger audienceI would encourage everyone associated with PTC to support this venture as the better it goes this time the more likely it will be that we can take more shows to this new and very professional venue. If anyone wants to get involved withthis production pleaselet me know as we can do with helpers. The dates are 6/7 October at the Star of the Sea Theatre in Manly at 8.30pm.The show is “Junk Rooms” with Natalie Taylor(Gwen in Earnest) and directed by myself. If you know of any friends that may be interetsed please pass on the details when the flyer comes out.

Finally it is good to see PTC back on a firmer financial footing and hope that we can continue our successes and make 2006 just as strong artistically and financially as 2005 has been.

March AGM Report

Pres Report 2005.

Firstly I would like to thank all those who are here for their support over the last 12 months. I can honestly say that the majority of you have given more of your time and effort than would normally have been required. We have had some great highlights over the last 12 months and without your support we would not have made it through one of our toughest years.

It goes without saying that it is now more expensive than ever to stage three shows a year. Our costs have risen to the point where we need to make at least $1,000 profit from each show, just to maintain the status quo.
Which also means we cannot afford to have a financial failure with any show.

Special thanks go to a few people. Henry, for his enthusiasm and dedication to keeping the purse. Des and Majella for the photography, and their friendship and knowledge. Bronwen for getting the secretarial duties done with a minimum of fuss and to the recent directors for putting on such fabulous shows. Special thanks also to Richard for bravely marching on with his new play "Boys' Night In" which is sure to prove yet another success.

It is with a heavy heart that I intend stepping down as President this year.
This is mainly due to my business commitments, and the distance I need to travel to get to Narrabeen, but also to give others a chance at the mantle.
I'm sure you will give as much support to the successor (late news - Congratulations Henry!) as you have given me over the last five years. Once my personal commitments settle and I move back to the beloved beaches, I will be happy to re-stand should the need arise.

Thank you all again for this opportunity and go forward to greater things.

Bus Trips for members to Plays in town

5.1: Tiffany put forward the idea and this was generally very well accepted.

5.2: Henry suggested we elect a “social secretary” and April offered (with a little persuasion) to take on the role, assisted by Di Mac, who offered to help procure cheaper STC tickets and Merrilyn, who will do whatever needed. Thanks to all three gals for their support!!

“Admit One” passes

6.1: These were distributed to all 2005 financial members at the meeting and will be made to all other financial members ASAP. (see web site for details) They are a pass for “2 tickets for the price of one” to one show of ALL 3 productions this year.

January Newsletter

"Hello all,

Happy 2005!

I'll try to be brief with this update.

Membership is Due.
If you are currently non financial, then we will need to organise a membership renewal for you. Your membership fees will assist in keeping the website up to date, assist with the almost prohibitive insurance premiums we must pay to keep operating and also provide the company with the necessary secretarial bits and bobs we need. It all helps to make your theatre company operate smoothly and efficiently. Membership is $20 per annum, new members have a $10 set up fee.

Steaming:
It appears that "Steaming" may have been one of our most successful plays in terms of audience appreciation and comment. We had many people from much further afield than usual and every night there were all kinds of very positive comments on the cast, the execution and the director's insight. So, well done Des and your cast. It's always great to know we are doing something that the audience are enjoying.

Boys' Night In:
Auditions for Richard Womack's play are coming up on January 31st and February 3rd at the NNCTC. If you need more information you can email Richard at womack@bigpond.com. This play is getting a good deal of attention so the parts may be hotly contested, be there to be part of a great new play.

Seen about:
- Most of you will know Sheree's son Tobi is now appearing in Home and Away, Tobi has become an integral part of the show and could be up for an award as the Most Popular New Talent 2005. If you watch Home and Away, go buy a copy of TV Week and vote for Tobi.
- Sheree Atkins is also in a couple of shows coming up. Lemon Delicious for one performance at Newtown RSL Club, 23rd Feb, 8pm, 52 Enmore Rd, Newtown. Short and Sweet, the premiere short play festival. Her play is called "Cluedumb" and plays between Feb 2 to Feb 5, call the Seymour Centre on 9351 7940 for more information.
- Tamsin Rothschild, who played Hero in "Much Ado" and Directed "There Goes the Bride" will be opening her own play in Los Angeles this week. African Gothic is her own compilation, she tells me she is so excited to have the play produced in the US. I'm not sure whether it's Professional, co-op or amateur, but never the less, it's great that she is getting exposure for her work over there. "Break Legs" Tamsin.
- The Phantom seems to be back working on the website. If you've been there lately you'll notice a section for past productions. Problem is, there are few photos there. So, if you have anything you can submit to the Phantom, please send them on so they can be included in the past productions section.
- Fleurtasha and Pablo have been filming a short film around the Northern Beaches, it features Henry, Des, Fleurtasha and Pablo, if they're lucky it will be part of a number of short film festivals including Tropfest in Sydney and then on to the US when they go later this year. Keep your fingers crossed for them!

OK, that's it for now.

All the very best for 2005. See you at the meeting!

So if you can make Thursday, Friday or Saturday this week, please come see it and support your fellow actors/members in what has been the most daring show we have yet produced. Special congratulations to Des, and his cast for bringing this one off. It's a credit to his dedication and drive to get the job done.

AVALON MARKET DAY
Henry has organised an information booth at the Avalon Market day, this Saturday November 20th. At this point, Henry and myself are the only two who have stepped up to spend time promoting PTC as part of the Pittwater Community Arts Council. Richard has suggested he can be there for a short while. So if you have an hour or two on Saturday, please let Henry or myself know, or just drop by, so we can have a toilet break during the day!

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION -TEX MEX
There are still a number of places available for the PTC Christmas at Tex Mex on December 10th. I know it's a busy time of the year, but if indications from last year's dinner are anything to go by, we all should have a terrific night. I need final numbers on Monday December 6th.

WEBSITE
Our esteemed Treasurer Henry Jennings deserves a pat for taking on the immense task of designing and maintaining our new website. Although still in it's infancy, the site will grow with previous show info, auditions, meeting details and any other related information about PTC. If you have any photos, stories, old programs send them to Henry for inclusion on the site. Thanks Henry, also to the "Phantom". http://www.peninsulatheatre.com.au

2005
Next year's seasons are starting to form up very well. Richard Womack's "Boys' Night In" is well into the planning stages and auditions will be held in mid January. We'll send you info on these shortly, hopefully before Christmas. If you have yet to read the script, contact Richard at Womack@bigpond.com. Richard is also looking for a Director's assistant to help out at rehearsals.

Our mid year show is yet to be decided after the rights for "Strictly Ballroom" were found to be unavailable. We have a shortlist, which are included in the attached minutes, so please take the time to look over them and give us your feedback on what play you would like to see done in August next year. The play for August needs to be reasonably well known, not over done by other groups and reasonably "Bankable" due to producing an unknown play at the beginning of the year. We are also on the lookout for a director, especially if they have an Australian play they would like to do with us.

Our final show, will be "Don's Party" this was one of the first plays PTC's did and we're reviving it as part of PTC's 21st birthday celebrations.

SEEN ABOUT
It's been said, that the Phantom was supposed to have been a part of the Nicole Kidman "Chanel" advertisement. At least that's what he said. Those I spoke to didn't see him though. Delusions of grandeur?

In case you missed it, Bruce Wyatt famous for playing Capt Phillip and Salvidor Dali (sp?) (among other things) in two of PTC's recent productions is about to finish another great character role as "Billy Flynn" in Chicago. Sorry I missed it.

Fleurtasha and Pablo who starred in "Earnest" recently, are still waiting to find out (or perhaps they have by now) whether they are going to be one of the final couples to take part in the next season of "My Restaurant Rules". Let us know guys, so we can come for that free dinner you offered!

NEWSLETTER
As you've probably noticed, this is my attempt at keeping you up to date with what's happening at PTC. I'd love your input, but more than that, I'd love someone to take over and produce a monthly newsletter beginning next year. If you have a flair for writing, drop me a line and we'll talk about it.

In case we don't see you, Gabi and I would like to wish you all a very happy Christmas and a healthy New Year.
